CAMPAIGN FINANCE LAW IN NEWS JULY 22nd!

U.S.A. TODAY reports on page 5A
"Wealthy Few Provide much of the cash for
independent political groups".

"Independent groups that aren't controlled by
political parties or candidates
have raised more than $120 million
this election season."

These INDEPENDENT GROUPS
are NOT controlled by political parties
and they are NOT controlled by candidates.

"These out-side groups probably will raise
and spend many more millions on TV
and radio advertising, automated phone calls,
mailed brochures, internet sites
and other politicking."

"Independent political groups multiplied
after a new campaign finance law in 2002."

"Un-limited donations are allowed to
two main kinds of non-profit
political groups, both named after sections
of the tax code governing them:
> 527s must report their donations to the
IRS but can raise and spend
UNLIMITED AMOUNTS.
>501(C)4S don't have to report their donors
but must spend more than half of their
funds for non-political purposes such as
educational or social service programs."

Again, on the front page of U.S.A. TODAY,
"Independent political groups - known as
527s for the section of the tax code that
governs their activity - because the groups
can raise and spend unlimited amounts of
money with little federal scrutiny and have
a history of financing attack ads."

"CAN RAISE AND SPEND UNLIMITED AMOUNTS OF
MONEY WITH LITTLE FEDERAL SCRUTINY
AND HAVE A HISTORY OF FINANCING ATTACK ADS."

or attempting to influence
the selection,
nomination, election, or appointment of any

Federal, State, or local public office or office in a
political organization.
