Regarding kendra sams – “lodged” at laurel county corrections” in kentucky…

Ms. Kendra Sams,  29  years old, was being lodged at the Laurel County Corrections.

According to Facebook posts she suffered a seizure on July 12th which caused her to fall from the top bunk in her cell and land on the floor.  She was not given medical attention at that time.

At some point she was transferred to Casey County Corrections where her illness became acute.  Her Mother was apparently contacted and she was then transported to the Hospital.

It is currently 8/20/15 at 10:30pm and I am awaiting a call from Roger Hoskins who is willing to fill in the gaps in this atrocity which has happened under the watch of  “Kentucky Corrections “.

We can only hope and pray that Kendra Sams receives the justice that the State of Kentucky owes her because of this horrific ordeal.  She is not out of ICU yet.   She is currently still fighting for her life.

It never should have happened.

ANYONE who is incarcerated is entitled to receive healthcare under the Justice Department.

Our attention span is now less than that of a goldfish, Microsoft study finds

Image result for goldfish

Humans have become so obsessed with portable devices and overwhelmed by content that we now have attention spans shorter than that of the previously jokingly juxtaposed goldfish.

Microsoft surveyed 2,000 people and used electroencephalograms (EEGs) to monitor the brain activity of another 112 in the study, which sought to determine the impact that pocket-sized devices and the increased availability of digital media and information have had on our daily lives.

Among the good news in the 54-page report is that our ability to multi-task has drastically improved in the information age, but unfortunately attention spans have fallen.

In 2000 the average attention span was 12 seconds, but this has now fallen to just eight. The goldfish is believed to be able to maintain a solid nine.

"Canadians [who were tested] with more digital lifestyles (those who consume more media, are multi-screeners, social media enthusiasts, or earlier adopters of technology) struggle to focus in environments where prolonged attention is needed," the study reads.

"While digital lifestyles decrease sustained attention overall, it’s only true in the long-term. Early adopters and heavy social media users front load their attention and have more intermittent bursts of high attention. They’re better at identifying what they want/don’t want to engage with and need less to process and commit things to memory."

Anecdotely, many of us can relate to the increasing inability to focus on tasks, being distracted by checking your phone or scrolling down a news feed.

Another recent study by the National Centre for Biotechnology Information and the National Library of Medicine in the US found that 79 per cent of respondents used portable devices while watching TV (known as dual-screening) and 52 per cent check their phone every 30 minutes.

One professor believes it’s an entirely natural response though – as we consume an increasing volume of information and digest it faster, our appetite for it grows.

"When we first invented the car, it was so novel. The thought of having an entertainment device in the car was ridiculous because the car itself was the entertainment," said Bruce Morton, a researcher with the University of Western Ontario’s Brain & Mind Institute.

"After a while, travelling for eight hours at a time, you’d had enough of it. The brain is bored. You put radios in the car and video displays. Why? Because after the first 10 minutes of the drive I’ve had enough already. I understand this.

"Just because we may be allocating our attention differently as a function of the technologies we may be using, it doesn’t mean that the way our attention actually can function has changed.

"Digital technologies dovetail seamlessly into the information processing abilities of our brain."

ATTENTION KENTUCKY: ANOTHER PIPELINE PLAN FOR NATURAL GAS LIQUIDS

Saturday, 08 November 2014 10:00

The alarm is ringing again for Kentuckians who already stopped one potentially hazardous pipeline project. Public backlash plugged plans for the Bluegrass Pipeline, which included building 180 miles of new pipeline to help transport natural gas liquids from the Northeast to the Gulf Coast. Now, less than a year later, another pipeline for the fracking industry is in the works – this time to repurpose the Tennessee Gas Pipeline to move natural gas liquids. Environmental advocate Chris Schimmoeller calls it "a far different beast" from natural gas.

The Tennessee Gas Pipeline system currently travels just over one-thousand miles from Pennsylvania to Louisiana. Installed primarily in the 1950s, it runs 256 miles through 18 Kentucky counties. Campbellsville, Danville, Glasgow, Morehead and Richmond are among the towns near its path.

Energy conglomerates Kinder Morgan and MarkWest want to make the pipeline conversion to natural gas liquids by 2017. Marion County Judge Executive John Mattingly opposes the idea.

With this second pipeline controversy brewing in Kentucky, citizens who united to stop the Bluegrass Pipeline are hosting a summit tomorrow (November 8) in Lexington about fracking. Schimmoeller, one of the summit’s organizers, says there will also be a focus on how to move away from fossil fuels.

PLEASE READ THIS…IT COULD HAPPEN TO YOU!

My name is Karen Ross-Glaser. I am a disabled 43 year-old single mother, who is trying to provide a better life for my family, away from the abuse we suffered in Michigan. We recently relocated to Arizona 3 years ago, due to a domestic violence situation. The children and I all suffer from PTSD, while the younger children have additional health issues. I am working with many agencies including counseling services to help the family heal.

Recently, I was arrested and mistaken for someone else due to an Identity Theft issue. (http://www.kvoa.com/news/identity-theft-plagues-southern-arizona-residents/). Fifteen of my Civil rights were violated, including my disability act rights. Upon returning home a CPS investigator told myself and witnesses (CarrieAnn Mick and Charlie Warren) that they had taken my children into custody and I needed to sign a form giving CPS temporary three day custody of Elizabeth (16) and David (15). In shock and breaking down, my friend CarrieAnn holding me from collapsing.  I could barely see through my tears and I signed the paper without reading it.

Later I realized that the form I previously signed was giving custody to CPS and that they are charging me with neglect and failure to protect; due to being incarcerated overnight, and the children being left unattended. Once CPS learned they were in the wrong and that the children did have supervision, even though they are old enough to be on their own. CPS then charged me with Substance abuse of marijuana (I am a legal Medical Marijuana card holder). CPS then ordered my oldest son and wife to not allow me contact with my newborn grandson.

The children have been in custody since January 28th. Our counseling has been stopped and they haven’t arranged any visits for us. The courts ordered our counseling to continue and weekly visits to be given, yet CPS hasn’t complied. Since the children were placed in foster care they have been missing twice, skipped school a few times, been in a fight which resulted in a suspension from school and CPS has even allowed my son David who has a closed head injury to join a boxing group. Since the children have been gone, my disability has been cut and assessed child support. I am now at risk of losing our home. I am doing everything I can to raise the funds to hire the attorneys needed to handle this case. I have had to take in renters to help cover expenses and stay afloat. Yet, I am still struggling and haven’t been able to retain an attorney. While time is running out!

I am being wrongfully accused and have the documentation to prove my innocents. I am fighting for my family, to clear my name, get my children back and save our home. I am desperate and pleading for any and all help that the public can give us!

*PLEASE HELP ME SAVE MY FAMILY*

The problem with this situation trying to find legal help is that it is so widespread and complicated. I’ve been told I need a team of different types of lawyers to handle everything involved;

-Family Law Attorney/Dependency Attorney

-Criminal Lawyer/Identity Theft/MMJ Attorney

-Bankruptcy/Tax

-Personal Injury Attorney

-Civil Rights Attorney

-Civil Attorney

-ADA Attorney

Notorious Koch Brothers Win 2013’s Rubber Dodo

KochBros

It’s a landslide: The ultra-secret, super-rich Koch Brothers are the lucky recipients of the Center for Biological Diversity’s 2013 Rubber Dodo Award, given annually to those who have done the most to drive endangered species extinct.

Charles G. and David H. Koch have worked for years behind the scenes to prop up right-wing operations like the climate-denial movement, the Tea Party, and efforts to push through Keystone XL and strip federal protection for the last wolves left in the lower 48 states.

"When it comes to pulling levers behind the scenes for those who wreck our climate, destroy wild places and attempt to kill our last remaining wildlife, the Koch Brothers are in a class by themselves," said Kierán Suckling, the Center’s executive director. "Either their moral compass is broken or they never had one in the first place. These guys are the poster children for despicable corporate greed."

More than 14,000 people cast their votes in this year’s Rubber Dodo contest — thanks so much for your enthusiasm. Disappointed contenders for the title were Rep. Doc Hastings (R.-Wash.);

Russ Girling, Keystone XL booster and TransCanada CEO; and NRA head honcho Wayne LaPierre.

Kentucky has more lakes suspected of having toxic algae

LOUISVILLE, Ky. —Kentucky has seven lakes suspected of having excessive levels of toxic algae, but state officials aren’t revealing which bodies of water are being targeted for a second round of tests.

Kentucky environmental regulators are drawing water from the lakes for a second time for more rigorous laboratory analysis after initial samples showed concentrations of blue-green algae worthy of health advisories.

Kentucky Division of Water official Clark Dorman said the lakes involved in the most recent advisory aren’t run by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Five Corps-run lakes were the subject of a recent advisory.

Even though the state’s initial tests suggested health risks to the public, dogs and farm animals, state officials are declining to identify those water bodies.

Chronically ill Kentucky citizens that have been debilitated by disease need your support. Please help our cause by coming out to the rally. Kentucky Legislature will be commencing during January

Kentucky Legislature will be commencing during January. A crucial medical bill was stalled last Legislature session, for all of our family’s sake we cannot let this happen again. Our session this year will only last 30 days, so we need to make this bill a priority. Please take less than ten minutes from your new year and help deprived patients gain safe access to an effective medicine. Inform your district congressmen of your support for BR 55 to pass. The enacting of this bill will benefit our Kentucky patients suffering with Cancer, chronic pain (including migraines), Neurodegenerative Conditions, Gastrointestinal, Mental health (including PTSD), and Congenital Disorders. BR 55 is noted as the Gatewood Galbraith Medical Marijuana Memorial Act.

Marijuana has many currently accepted medical uses in the United States, having been recommended by thousands of licensed physicians to more than five hundred thousand (500,000) patients in states with medical marijuana laws. 18 states and the District of Columbia have protected and provided for their patients by enacting medical marijuana laws. Even to this day, the federal government sends 300 pre-rolled marijuana cigarettes to their patients through the mail, while those who choose the benefits of medical marijuana in Kentucky face criminal charges, the shattering of their family, or even death.
Twenty years ago this August, law enforcement killed a decorated Vietnam Veteran, footsteps away from his son and companion because he refused to give enforcement the right to cut his medicinal cannabis crop. After seven long hours of strategizing, with over 30 enforcers of the law present, and multiple helicopters, state enforcers chose to fire military grade weapons with explosive rounds toward the whole family, without negotiation. After the law enforcements gun blasts, the Veterans companion was bleeding from a serious head injury, their son was covered with both of his parents blood, his father was killed by nine bullets with his hands in the air.
Enforcement was able to call all of their actions on that Sunday just in the name of the law. If Kentucky, back in 1993, had enacted the Gatewood Galbraith Medical Marijuana Memorial Act, the above family would not had to experience such a devastating way to lose a provider and father. Still today, many within our state face damages from medical marijuana prohibition and this isn’t just. There is no better way to start the New Year than by making efforts to end this prohibition in our deserving state.

There are three main ways you and your friends can help:
1) Call the Legislative Message Line at 1-800-372-7181 and tell your District Senator to vote YES on the Gatewood Galbraith Medical Marijuana Act.
2) Write Passionate Letters/ Emails in support of medical marijuana to your District Senator at:

http://www.lrc.ky.gov/legislators.htm or when calling 1-800-372-7181 verbally dictate your letters to the operator. It’s their job to take your message and deliver it directly to whom it is intended.
3) Call your District Senator directly and schedule an appointment to speak with him/her in person. This is the best way to show your support. By visiting your District Senator it personalizes the request to vote YES on the bill and shows that medical marijuana is an important issue to you.
http://www.lrc.ky.gov/legislators.htm
You can also help by contacting your District’s House Representative and request they make a companion bill to the Gatewood Galbraith Medical Marijuana Memorial Act.
Go to the Kentucky Legislature: Who’s My Legislature page. This page will tell you who your District Senators and House Representatives are, as well as, all email addresses, mailing addresses, and phone numbers needed.
